FABLAB Devon Home-Ed Design Academy Workshops (Spring 2024 First-Half)
February 16 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm£13
Friday 16th February – Create a design to engrave onto a bamboo-covered notebook
In this workshop, your child will learn how to create a 2D vector-based design that we will laser-engrave onto a bamboo-covered eco-notebook. The notebook has 60 recycled paper-lined pages. They look amazing when engraved!
Friday 23rd February – design a mug
Using our new mug heat-press, your child will be able to create their design using images and/or text and we will heat-press it onto our high-gloss mugs. The mugs have black handles and are black inside plus are dishwasher and microwave-safe. One mug is provided as part of this workshop.
Welcome to our new Home-Ed Design Academy.
Each workshop is a design and make workshop where your child/ren will work on a design project (with lots of options within it) to design a product. For some sessions, their design will be made in the session but for some projects (3D printing for example) this is not possible so their design will be made after the session and we’ll let you know when it’s ready for collection.
Each session is 2 hours. Each session is £13 for one child (this includes materials needed to make their designs). Places are very limited to 8 so booking is essential. It will not be possible to turn up without a ticket. Children need to be aged 8yrs+. Emergency contact details will be completed during the checkout process plus any consent for image permission. Please note that we need a minimum of four people to book for the workshop to go ahead. If not enough tickets are sold, we will contact you and refund the session. Children should be dropped off at the FabLab and collected at the end of the workshop.
Illness – if your child is ill for any reason please do not attend. Your child mustn’t attend if they are displaying any Covid-19 symptoms, including a cough.
Refunds – our policy is no refunds. If you are unable to attend, please let us know as we are running a waiting list and, if we can resell your ticket, we will refund your ticket (but not the Eventbrite fee). If we cannot resell your ticket then no refund will be issued. If you are unable to attend then please notify us as soon as possible and then we can ‘release your ticket’.
If we have to cancel a workshop for any reason, we will refund you your ticket/s in full. However, we are unable to refund the Eventbrite booking fee.
Late Arrival – It will not be possible to join the workshop if you arrive more than 15 minutes late. By this time, we are getting into the technical content of the workshop and it’s not possible to go back over what we have already covered.
Mobile phones are not to be used in the workshops. They can be brought into the workshops but not used.
Making their Designs
We will make their designs for them to keep. This is not always possible in the workshop due to time it takes to design and to make. 3D projects will not be made during the workshop. If time doesn’t allow for designs to be made, we will email you when they are ready for collection. For a small fee, we can sometimes send designs to other Devon or Torbay Libraries for collection.
