Exeter Doughnut Economics Gathering – Event summary

We know we’ve got to change our economies, we know that people are finding Doughnut Economics a useful tool, so join us!

On 21st & 22nd May the Exeter Doughnut team held the first ever Doughnut Economics Gathering! We had workshops hosted by the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) team; a talk on how the Doughnut can help us achieve our climate goals; two interactive sessions on what it means to live a good life within the Doughnut (write up on this coming soon); A Doughnut Disco!; a keynote by Kate Raworth (see below); and finally a panel discussion on the Doughnut, anchor institutions and power dynamics.

The slides/media from from various workshops are available here: Peter Lefort’s Tipping Points; Rob Shorter’s Communities’ Possibilities and Patterns cards and examples of Doughnut Economics projects from around the world.

We hope that everyone came away feeling inspired and energised, with more ideas on how humanity can thrive, whilst respecting needs of the natural world.

If you’re in or around Exeter and would like to join the Exeter Doughnut team, do drop us a line! hello@exeterdoughnut.org

Join us in Exeter for a collaborative event open to all!

Hosted by the Exeter Doughnut group over two days, and across a variety of central locations, the Exeter Doughnut Economics Gathering will bring together individuals, communities, businesses, local governments, and more.

Supported by DEAL, the Doughnut Economics Action Lab, we will share stories and ideas, explore opportunities and frustrations, and learn from each other as we discover more about the transformative potential of the Doughnut Economics model.

Please see below for a draft schedule please do let us know if you would like to showcase your work or have ideas for workshops.

We are coming together with the idea that it’s only in the hands of practitioners that we can really learn what Doughnut Economics can do. We want to speak to what we don’t know, to help build momentum for transformation, and to focus on people, places, and possibility.

Who it’s for

This is for everyone, but we anticipate that we will have a mix of:

  • The Advocates – existing practitioners of Doughnut Economics
  • The Curious– those who have heard about the idea, but want to discover more
  • The Unfamiliar– some will never have heard about Doughnut Economics before, and that’s absolutely fine!

Get your free ticket now and get it in your diary!

This event is kindly supported by the University of Exeter’s Global Systems Institute.

We will be providing lunch and refreshments throughout both days. Please note that accommodation is not provided, and all participants will need to find their own places to stay. If you need any local advice, feel free to get in touch!

Doughnut Economics: A new perspective on urban development in Exeter

How can the development of civic spaces in Exeter be more inclusive, climate-positive and creative?

https://www.home.earth/doughnut

The event is for anyone affected by and interested in future-proofing urban development across Exeter. We will use inspiring and imaginative tools from Doughnut Economics to create a collective vision for what is important, what is complex, and what is often hidden or unheard.

It will be an entirely independent event, being held to bring the ideas of Doughnut Economics to some of the key questions and challenges we face across our city. We are also welcoming suggestions from other groups and organisations who would like to share their work at the event, or run an activity or discussion during it. Please let us know if you are interested.

The event will be free and open to all, and food and refreshments will be provided.
